Promised Land – This fun arrangement features three well known spirituals. The first is Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho, which uses motif devices that depict the marching of Joshua’s army around the walls of the city, followed by the walls coming down. The second spiritual is Deep River. This beautiful hymn song is juxtaposed against a rhythmic groove reminiscent of a flowing river stream within an African setting. Finally, the work concludes with This Train, complete with the Doppler effect and partnered with Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
