This grade 4/medium level concert band work features three contrasting movements that are a reflection of the natural settings of the Canadian prairies. The Open Sky creates a pastoral setting of splendor of the prairie skies, the birds of the air, the passing clouds, the sunshine, and moonlight starry nights. The Incoming Storm depicts the grandeur of the summer prairie storm, which makes its ominous appearance on the horizon as it encroaches and releases its fury. This movement is written in the style of a Passacaglia. The final movement, Countryside Celebrations, is a tribute to the men and women who pioneered the prairie provinces. After hard days of work, time to socialize and dance was well earned.
